In today's Gospel Jesus gives a stark warning to those who wish to follow him. Jesus had been drawing great crowds, he had been performing amazing miracles and his teaching must have been inspiring to hear. As Luke describes it, following Jesus must have been exciting, exhilarating, even fun. Today's Gospel reading comes from the section of Luke's Gospel just before Jesus and his followers set off for Jerusalem to celebrate The Passover. Jesus knows that this journey will end in his death. His teaching in today's Gospel shows him getting his followers ready for the changes they will encounter. Following Jesus will soon mean risking one's reputation and even one's life.

Fr Jim McGrath

You will be pleased to welcome Fr Jim McGrath for Mass this weekend. He has been with us previously and does not have to travel too far from Holmes Chapel to be with us. I am sure you will make him very welcome.

Papal Visit

Handbooks for the Papal Visit are available in the porch. For those attending Hyde Park or the Mass at Cofton Park, or intending to follow events via the media, please do make sure you take a copy. Although there are not copies for everyone, there are enough for one per family or household. A contribution of £2 per copy, if you are able, would cover the costs. Please place in basket provided.
